MISSIONS

Our current missions involvement is in
supporting the following missionaries:
Ronald & Loudell Posein (Tanzania)
They are currently involved with the Village
of Hope. Ronald & LouDell have been
missionaries in Tanzania since 1973 doing
church planting and Bible College teaching.
In 1997 the Government of Tanzania asked
them to take over an orphanage near the city
of Mwanza. To accurately portray the
character of the orphanage it was called,
Starehe Children's Home. Starehe in the
Kiswahili language means to be a total ease
or peace. Safety, a bed, a
mattress, sufficient food, medical attention
and schooling are all things these children
never knew. 113 children are now blossoming
in this wonderful environment. Some have
been healed of the deadly disease of AIDS.
LouDell also is the coordinator of the PAOC
Child Care Plus with over 200 children on
the program.
Bill & Evelyn Mercer (Mozambique)
Bible School 1985 – Currently involved with
an extension Bible School.
William & Linda Mercer opened the Bible school in the capital
city of Maputo in 1985. Bill oversees the
extension program that reaches approximately
100 centres and over 1,000 students in
Mozambique. Linda oversees an active
Christian education department. This
includes pre-schools in the local churches,
ministry to youth, a moral and ethics
course, and an AIDS prevention
program in the public schools. She is also
involved in a medical association, promoting
health projects such as food supplement for
undernourished children.
Far East Missions Work![[when+i+grow+up+s.jpg]](http://firstave.org/images/clip_image001_001.jpg)
First Avenue also directly supports one of our Pentecostal Assembly ofCanadamissionary families that is working covertly behind the bamboo curtain. We are not including names here in order to protect their identities and security, however their work is contributing to the onslaught of the gospel in one of the most promising fields in the East. They are true heroes
of the faith.
Mission work in Estonia
Though First Ave is no longer actively involved with Estonia since the Church there is now almost entirely indigenized (led by Estonian nationals with no need of foreign help), we have played a significant part in Christ's mission in the nation of Estonia. Missionary Allan Laur and his wife Rael accomplished amazing exploits there, supported both not only financially by First Ave, but personally as well, since they have relatives who attend here. In a very short amount of time, the Laur's were
able to effect life-long change. Such that the Estonian Church is now almost entirely indigenized (led by Estonian nationals with no need of foreign help). At the turn of the 21st Century, First Ave was overjoyed to be able to assist this mission with a gift (raised in large part by two Canadian businessmen) of $1,000,000.00. Alan's untimely death in 2004 ushered him into his Master's arms, and left the church Estonia strong and vibrant.
Power to Change (formerly Campus Crusade for Christ)
First Ave has helped send The Jesus Film, a movie on the life of Christ that has been translated and played into more languages than any other in history, around the world. This mission has seen multiple tens of thousands give their lives to Christ. International Director Jack Robertson attends at First Ave, and so do other Campus Crusade personnel. We’re proud to have been a part of such global success in both financial personal ways.
Other Avenues
We are proud to have many ministers based in our First Ave family. Some are current or retired pastors, while others are actively involved globally. Bible League, (Bryan Colbourne), Asia Span, and International Student Ministries Canada (Ron & Sheri Krestinski) are some of these. Further, we have supported Franklin Graham’s Operation Christmas Child, short-term missions projects, Teen Challenge, District & General Conference appeals, ERDO, Katrina relief, and other ministries.
